The Balboa: A Southern California Delight

Competing and dancing balboa with friends!

The Balboa is one of the dance styles founded in the height of the swing era in Newport Beach, California. This dance is built around two different aesthetics – a close embrace that allows you and your partner to move together, dancing as one couple. The other aesthetic is the incorporation of high energy and the Hollywood influence from Los Angeles through twists and turns for your partner!

You can dance this to fast or slower music, but most importantly you can enjoy these steps on crowded dance floors. Take these steps with you to live music venues and dive bars where space is no obstacle to you! It’s an easy dance and it continues to spread in popularity throughout the world.

What are Group Lessons?

Group lessons are typically more than 2 people in a classroom, and they are taught with a lead and a follow role – you can choose to learn either role upon showing up. Both roles are given the entire class time to practice steps, turns and social dance etiquette with the guidance of the instructor. You can come to class either alone or with a partner – all students are expected to rotate throughout class. Afterwards, enjoy the night of social dancing by asking your classmates or other dancers if they would like to dance with you!

If you like one – on – one attention, you can look into private lessons. Click here for more information.
