Comprehensive Balboa Prerequisites
Curriculum and Student Goals
Beginners will be developing leading and following safety, etiquette and dance skills. They will also be exposed to variations commonly used in balboa (see curriculum below). We also instill you the confidence to dance with dance partners of different skill levels. As instructors, our goal is to provide you the space to develop into wonderful confident dancers and to advance you as the next generation of balboa dancers. It is recommended that you spend at least two months in beginner classes before advancing.
Intermediates will further develop the balboa aesthetic of flow and shapes. You will also learn complex rhythm and footwork styling in addition to redirects and catches.
Progressive vs Drop in Classes
Progressive series are structured to have continuity between classes. Core fundamentals are enforced in each class to provide the student a progression with other students committed to the entire series. Students that attend the the entire series can grow together, resulting in opportunities to advance. New students are encouraged to start at the beginning of the month and attend the first two weeks of the month, afterwards it is up to the discretion of the instructor. You are also encourage to repeat these series until you are comfortable with your fundamentals and repertoire of material.
Drop in classes are structured as an elective with a unique topic each week. These classes reintroduce core fundamentals and can be repeated multiple times to ensure that both new and returning students are comfortable with their material.
